Creating a junk mail (spam) filtering rule in Outlook Express

  1. Launch Outlook Express. Click Tools, Message Rules, Mail…

  2. Check the boxes next to “Where the Subject line contains specific words” and “Move it to the specified folder” as shown below.

  3. Click the blue “contains specific words” link in the box near the bottom.

  4. Type [SPAM] as shown below, then click the “Add” button.

  5. Click the “specified” within the phrase “Move it to the specified folder”. In the next window, click “New Folder” and enter a name such as “Junk Mail” or “Spam” then click “OK”.

  6. Make sure that the Rule Description reads similar to the example below. “Where the Subject line contains…” and “Move it to the … folder” should both be filled in. At the bottom of the window, give the rule a name and click “OK’. Click “OK” again when the “Message Rules” window appears.

  7. All e-mail identified as Spam by the RJ2 Mail server will be tagged with [SPAM] in the subject line and this rule will route the e-mail to the folder just created (such as Junk Mail). This folder should be checked occasionally and its contents deleted.
