Digital

Digital surveillance systems enhance the traditional analog closed circuit television (CCTV) experience by recording to a digital video recorder (much like those included with many cable and satellite systems). These systems convert the analog video to digital formats for storage on the DVR's hard drive, which offers greatly increased storage over traditional VHS tapes.

Additionally, DVRs provide better archiving of your security videos, and in an appropriately configured environment, you can sign in to the DVR via the Internet to view the images and videos stored there, from anywhere in the world.

Digital systems provide more enhanced features than traditional analog CCTV systems, at a cost between analog and IP-based solutions.

IP

IP-based security solutions are the "gold standard" of video surveillance. IP solutions record the images digitally, using digital cameras, and send that data via Internet technologies (such as TCP/IP) to a central server.

As all of the video is digital, from start to finish, there is never any degradation in quality. Additionally, IP-based solutions allow you to stream the video -- in real-time -- to any computer in the world, while recording it locally as well. This streaming can be made available via secure Internet transmission, allowing your remote offices to view the videos taken on a job site, for example -- as they're happening.

Additionally, in an IP-based scenario, all of the cameras are customizable for redundant recording purposes. This enables your network to be managed from anywhere in the world you happen to be -- all with a few clicks of your mouse.
